County Championship: Yorkshire inflict Surrey's first defeat of the season with dominant victory

Yorkshire wrapped up an impressive win by an innings and 127 runs at Headingley as Surrey slumped to their first defeat of the season in Division One of the County Championship.

The White Rose claimed their last five wickets just before lunch on day four after Surrey, who had started the day trailing by 199, quickly lost overnight duo Dom Sibley for 34 and Josh Blake for 19.

From there, the writing was on the wall as Surrey were bowled out for 155.

It was their first innings defeat in the Championship since May 2024 when they were beaten by Hampshire, while Yorkshire sealed their second win of the season.

Jake Lehmann struck his first century for Hampshire to help them secure a draw against leaders and defending champions Nottinghamshire at the Utilita Bowl.

Lehmann, son of former Australia coach Darren Lehmann, faced 205 deliveries for his unbeaten 102 before hands were shaken with Hampshire on 207-6.

Warwickshire and Glamorgan sit second and third in the table respectively despite settling for a draw in their rain-affected match at Edgbaston.

Colin Ingram made his century (101) before the visitors were all out for 259, with home bowler Ethan Bamber taking 5-48.

Warwickshire faced a winning target of 367 in a minimum of 75 overs and all results were possible after Alex Davies' 46 helped them to 100 for two, before the rain returned to end the match.

Somerset needed three wickets for victory but were thwarted by the weather after dominating their match against Sussex in Taunton, which also ended in a draw.

Sussex were teetering on 113-7, needing 160 more runs, when the umpires called time due to further rain.

In Division Two, England skipper Ben Stokes was out for 45 as leaders Durham played out a rain-hit draw against Kent in Beckenham.

Ben Raine made 106 and Callum Parkinson 54 not out as they put on 158 for the 10th wicket to help Durham reach 446 all out in reply to Kent's first-innings total of 523.

The hosts had lost opener Ben Dawkins for a duck before the umpires called it a day.

Northamptonshire substitute Louis Kimber set his side up for their second win of the season with a crucial knock of 66 as they clinched a thrilling two-wicket win against Gloucestershire in Bristol.

Northants resumed on 139-4, requiring 106 for victory, and Kimber made a crucial 69-ball 66 after replacing the injured Saif Zaib halfway through the match. Lewis McManus and Ben Sanderson ensured a fifth defeat of the season for Gloucestershire.

Derbyshire secured their first Championship victory over Middlesex at Lord's in 24 years, by seven wickets, as Wayne Madsen and Matthew Montgomery shared an unbeaten partnership of 53 to see them home.

Captain Madsen made 31 not out and Montgomery was undefeated on 21 to ease Derbyshire past a modest target of 122 after Middlesex were bowled out for 320 in the first hour of the final day.

In another weather-shortened contest, Lancashire and Worcestershire also settled for a draw in Southport as visiting skipper Brett D'Oliveira (unbeaten on 46) and Matthew Waite (47 not out) steered their side to 211-5.

Lancashire had declared on 281-8 in a bid to force a win either way - number eight Paul Coughlin made 61 - and although James Anderson took two quick wickets for the hosts, D'Oliveira and Waite put on 97 to deny them.
