Papers: Man Utd concede defeat to Man City in race for Anderson

'Gordon's versatility and CL form attracted Barcelona'

Your Site News' Keith Downie:

"What's interesting is the two clubs who were fighting for his signature are from the continent - Barcelona and Bayern Munich - and I think a lot of that would be down to what he's done in the Champions League this season.

"Only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane scored more goals than Gordon's 10. It's a brilliant return. In that competition, his numbers have been sensational. His numbers haven't been quite as good in the Premier League.

"Yes, he scored six, taking his total to 17 which, on paper, looks good. But clearly his best form this season has been reserved for the Champions League.

"He can play a number of positions, too. Ordinarily, he's played off the left-hand side in a 4-3-3, but he's also been used a lot through the middle, to devastating effect at times.

"Barcelona have got an abundance of riches, with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Robert Lewandowski is leaving, so perhaps that provides an opening for him through the middle. That ability to play in a number of positions is the thing that has attracted Barcelona.

"He's got blistering pace, he scores all sorts of goals and he's improved greatly as a Newcastle player since arriving from Everton. He's 25, he's an England international and I can see him fitting into the lifestyle over there, the style of football.

"Newcastle fans will be disappointed they are losing one of their star players, however I think it's easier to take losing him to Barcelona than it would have been if they were to have lost him to Arsenal, who were interested, and Liverpool, who almost signed him two years ago."

Wilson hints his time at West Ham is over

Callum Wilson has hinted his time at West Ham is over in a post on Instagram.

The 34-year-old joined the Hammers from Newcastle on a one-year contract last summer.

In the post, he said: "I felt really good and positive coming into this season and I believe I could have contributed more given the opportunity,.

"As you could see, my time on the pitch was very limited at times, but that was out of my control."

Wilson scored seven Premier League goals, but made just 11 league starts.

Jorgensen wants to leave Chelsea

Latest from Your Site News' Adrian Kajumba:

Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen wants to leave Chelsea due to his lack of game time.

Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal for 20.7m in July 2024.

He has spent most of his time at Stamford Bridge as a back-up to Robert Sanchez, with only 11 of his 36 appearances coming in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old Denmark international has now indicated his desire to move on, Your Site News understands.

Chelsea were reluctant to let Jorgensen leave in January when he was subject of interest from clubs in England and abroad but they are open to a sale this summer and will not need to sign a replacement.

Meanwhile, Mike Penders will return to Chelsea ahead of next season after spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan at their partner club Strasbourg.

Chelsea have high hopes for Penders, 20, and his displays for the Ligue 1 side helped him earn a place in Belgiums World Cup squad.

Breaking: Barca reach agreement for Gordon

Latest from Your Site News' Keith Downie:

Barcelona have reached agreement with Newcastle for winger Anthony Gordon.

Gordon will fly to Barcelona tomorrow to undergo his medical.

that a deal - for 70m plus bonuses - was close.

Inter still interested in Liverpool's Jones

Latest from Your Site News' Vinny O'Connor and Sky in Italy:

Inter Milan remain interested in signing Curtis Jones from Liverpool

The Italian club have been keen on the midfielder for some time - and he remains one of their targets this summer.

His Liverpool future is unclear following a lack of regular starts under Arne Slot this season.

He made 16 in the Premier League and seven in a row at the end of the campaign - but 18 more appearances came from the bench.

Drury named new Huddersfield head coach

Martin Drury has been appointed Huddersfield's new head coach.

The 40-year-old has been at the club since January 2026 and was previously assistant to Liam Manning, who was granted compassionate leave in March and left by mutual consent earlier this month.

Drury has previously worked at Bradford, West Brom, Man Utd and Valencia.

Before joining Huddersfield, he had a short spell working as assistant first team coach under Keith Andrews at Brentford.

Former Terriers striker Jon Stead will be Drury's assistant.

Hinchliffe to leave Stockport

Stockport have announced Ben Hinchliffe will leave the club this summer.

The goalkeeper, 38, joined the club in the summer of 2016 and went on to make 427 appearances in all competitions, including 28 in 2025/26.

That figure puts Hinchliffe - who won three league titles during his decade at the club - sixth in County's all-time appearance list.

On August 1, Stockport will take on Preston in his testimonial at Edgeley Park.

'Man Utd have scope to spend money this summer'

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire analyses Manchester United's latest financial results...

Do these results justify the job cuts that were made?

"It's an interesting one that they did make reference to. It could be argued the money saved from making 400 people redundant is broadly equivalent to the wages will have saved putting Marcus Rashford out on loan to Barcelona.

"Some other players went out on loan and they'll also have another substantial reduction in their wage bill with Casemiro leaving in the summer. That's very good for recruitment because it's freeing up space on the wage bill.

"Because they're in Europe, they'll be guaranteed substantial amounts of money; there will be at least four sold-out matches at Old Trafford plus, realistically, another 30-40m from competing in the competition. That will make Man Utd fans very excited over the summer."

Will the club look to reinvest this summer?

"They've got the scope to do so. The loans are the same as last year, but it's notable that the overdraft was reduced by 30m - again, that's freeing up cash. So they've got flexibility and that's what managers are hoping for.

"The nature of football trading is that you've got to use the exit door as well as the people coming through. But it's arrivals that excite fans and they've certainly got the scope to spend money.

"This is Man Utd. They've got the third most expensive squad in the Premier League and there's no reason why they can't add to that."

Norwich skipper McLean signs new deal

Norwich have announced Kenny McLean has signed a new two-year deal at Carrow Road.

The 34-year-old midfielder has played 310 times for the Canaries since joining from Aberdeen in January 2018.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: I'm over the moon to know that I'm going to be here for the next couple of years it's a place that me and my family call home.

The environment I find myself in every day with the staff and the players is great to be amongst.

I want more of that and I think everything is being laid now to bring that success to the football club. I'm desperate to be a part of that.
